GFMF to Analyse Global Economic Recovery and Emerging Markets Prospects

NBAD’s annual event attracts decision makers, investors and thought leaders

NBAD logoAbu Dhabi (January 23, 2014) – The sixth Global Financial Markets Forum (GFMF), the annual conference organised by the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), will analyse the economic recovery in the west, prospects in the Emerging Markets, and the UAE’s rising influence in the growing trade and investment flows across the West-East Corridor.

H.E. Nasser Ahmed Alsowaidi, the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and Chairman of NBAD, will inaugurate the 2014 GFMF with his opening address on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. The conference, which is expected to again draw more than 1,000 attendees, continues through March 5th.

The Forum’s keynote speakers include Lawrence Summers, who served as US Secretary of Treasury, President of Harvard University, and Chief Economist of the World Bank; Jean-Claude Trichet, the former President of European Central Bank; H.E. Sultan Bin Nasser Al Suwaidi, the Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, executives of key GCC companies and several notable investors and thought leaders.

Alex Thursby, NBAD’s Group CEO, will deliver opening address on the second day of the conference on March 5th, 2014.

“NBAD’s Global Financial Markets Forum has earned its prestige as one of the most coveted gatherings of the world’s influential thinkers and decision-makers; and we continue on to build on our achievement in each successive years,” says Mahmood Al Aradi, the Senior  Managing Director & Head of Global Markets  at NBAD. “Abu Dhabi, with its dynamic economy and its location at the centre of the emerging economies and changing global market dynamics, makes a perfect setting for a conference to discuss, analyze and debate the most critical financial issues and provide a forecast for the year.”

Since 2009, GFMF, which is organised by NBAD’s Global Markets, has invited hundreds of attendees to share thoughts and to benefit from discussions and analysis by prominent bankers, economists, thinkers, investors and executives who offer insight and on the critical issues affecting global economy and investors’ sentiments.

Last year’s GFMF attracted more than 1300 delegates from across many countries and it featured distinguished speakers such as Nicolas Sarkozy, former President of the French Republic; James A. Baker III, former US Secretary of Treasury and State and a statesman; and David Millibad, former UK Foreign Secretary.

In other years, GFMF featured speeches by Paul Volcker, former chairman of the US Federal Reserve System and economic advisor to President Barak Obama; and Axel Weber, former president of Deutsche Bundesbank, the German Central Bank and a member of European Central Bank Governing Council.

“The annual Global Financial Markets Forum has raised the bar of quality and this year, too, NBAD will enhance the quality of this most distinguished forum that has become recognised as an important medium for investors and financial thinkers to learn and discuss about critical issues of the day in one of the most important emerging regions of the world,” says Sameh Abdulla Al Qubaisi, the Managing Director of Corporate Sales
    at NBAD’s Global Markets.

GFMF includes Investor Presentation sessions, a programme introduced to the region by NBAD 2011 GFMF. The Investor Presentation sessions would be offered on February 25 and 26, prior to the commencement of the conference.

The 2014 GFMF will take place in the prestigious and state-of-the-art Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
